My car and moto obsession started with a deep wine purple '68 Corvette Stingray, given to me by my older brother when I was a wee lad. I still own that car, and today it is safely tucked away in my original Hot Wheels briefcase along with all my other redline favs. 

My love of shiny paint and wheels was instantaneous. But it was the hair-in-the-wind freedom, flying over cobblestone streets in small-town Holland, where my deep passion for bikes was born. And my ‘74 Neon Orange Schwinn thrilled me like no other. Complete with a three-gear top bar shifter, a long black banana seat, and a deep sensational orange that still glows brightly in my mind.

Fast-forward 46 years later, I still get that same special thrill whenever I throw a leg over my beloved orange Signature 110 Harley Night Train freedom machine. Yup, "the boy inside the man," still alive and kicking it.

Two or four wheels, it doesn't matter. For me, the motored machine is the essential emotion ticket for any road-tripping experiences that I find myself on. 

Be it one-of-a-kind rides, twisty asphalt adventures, or really great eats throughout North America's most excellent drives—all of it, a deep groove of memory-story-making experience.

With this life long passion intact, my hope is to grow a community of motored fanatics and zealots, and together, celebrate the motored machine through the stories they offer and to share it with other enthusiasts through our MOONRCKT brand.

Yup, this is me. The awkward car lover who’s clearly not built for speed.

But speedy or not, I’ve been drawn to cars since I was a little guy. As a kid, two of my favourite toys were an F-14 Tomcat (insert unapologetic Top Gun love here), and a die-cast Porsche 993 in bright silver. The 911 is still one of my absolute favourites, but to be honest, it’s not the speed or the power under the hood that I love most.

A graphic designer by trade, I’ve always been enamoured by the design of the motored machine—the flawless contour of a 911, the chrome wired wheels of an Aston Martin DB5, or even the boxy profile of the humble Datsun 510.

And for a long time I’ve been a gadget nerd, so I appreciate the toys and comforts that I find in more modern rides. Apple CarPlay, air conditioned seats, the ridiculously massive centre console display of a Tesla—that kind of stuff always leaves me wanting.

So why start MOONRCKT? Because cars (and bikes) are amazing inventions, and learning about their history and the people who made them—more fun. Then there’s discovering the deep and wide community of enthusiasts that surround this shared passion, and the chance of MOONRCKT making a bit of history of its own—even more fun. That’s why.
